Fàilte gu làrach-lìn a' Chomuinn Ghàidhlig Bhancoubhair
Welcome to the Gaelic Society of Vancouver website
The Gaelic Society of Vancouver was formed in 1908 by a group of dedicated Gaelic enthusiasts who wanted to establish a society where they could meet and enjoy each other's company and fellowship. The first meeting of the Society was held on February 8th, 1908 at the Sullivan Hall on Cordova Street, Vancouver.
The aim of the Society established at that time was to promote the Gaelic language and to preserve all matters of interest to the Celtic race by encouraging a wider knowledge of the Gaelic language, its literature and its music.
Today, our members strive to achieve those aims by organizing cèilidhs and other events, and by offering Gaelic language lessons at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver, where everyone will receive a warm welcome at our gatherings and events.
Upcoming Gaelic Society events at the Scottish Cultural Centre:
Please join us on Saturday, May 5th, 2018 as we celebrate our Society's 110th anniversary!
We are planning afternoon activities which include workshops in Gaelic language, music and songs, and talk on Gaelic, in relation to other Celtic languages.
Evening activities include dinner, and a grand concert featuring entertainers from Vancouver, Victoria BC, and from Slighe nan Gàidheal in Seattle.
